Corfu

I lived in Corfu for 11 years, after holidaying there almost 13 years ago, my family decided to make it our home. The things I love about Corfu are the hot summers, the friendly people and the fantastic beaches. As I am now in Athens, Corfu will always have a place in my heart and be my second home!!

This photo is my favourite view in all of Corfu!!! St. Georges Beach from above. This photo was actually taken during the winter but you wouldn't be able to guess from the colour of the sea and sky. In the distance you can see the Diapondia Islands; Othonoi, Mathraki and Erikoussa.

Acharavi, Corfu, one of the best places to enjoy a coffee or a drink by the beach, a popular destination for Greeks throughout the summer and the winter.

At the beginning of the summer season, I would drive around the resorts just to see what's new etc. The sunsets in Corfu are amazing, especially from the most northern parts. Here is the sunset from Arillas, taken on a windy day, when the north winds are strong, the waves are even stronger... Hold on to your hat!!

Kassiopi: a small fishing harbour surrounded by many luxury villas, seafood restaurants and boutique shops. In this photo you can see Albania too, as it was taken from the castle in Kassiopi which gives you spectacular views, especially on a clear day like this one.

Paleokastritsa... A bit of a mouthful to say, it's also known as Paleo for short. Breathtaking views from the highest spot on the mountain, Bella Vista (the name says it all!!). The beaches below allure tourists and locals of all kinds, but beware the sea can be cold even in the hottest summer temperatures.

Some of the best and most beautiful sunsets can be seen from different regions in the north of Corfu, they include Arillas, San Stefanos, Peroulades (Loggas Beach or Sunset Beach) and Acharavi. Wonder which one is your favourite...

Corfu town or Kerkyra is a capital town of the Ionian Islands, with its old town inscribed as one of the UNESCO Heritage Sites. Some of the major attractions in Corfu town are of course the famous Liston, the two fortresses (old & new), The Esplanade, Mon Repos, Achilleion and Pondikonisi otherwise known as Mouse Island. I don't have many photos but here are a selected few.

The Old Fortress and just below you can see the Saint George Temple

Many times during the warmer days of winter I would take walks along the north coast, usually starting at Roda and ending at Agios Spiridonas Beach, an eight kilometre walk.

I got to explore Old Peritheia on one of my last days in Corfu, I had been before but couldn't remember much. This is the oldest village in Corfu and it is a Heritage Protected Site. It was an unhabited village up until a few years ago and now many of the old houses and churches are being restored, there's also restaurants open for business as Old Peritheia attracts many visitors.
